About Us
History
Greenwich Country Day School opened up it's high school in September 2019 when they renovated the former Stanwich School campus into a new 42-acre Upper School campus. Greenwich Country Day School is now a private K-12 coed school in Greenwich, CT with two ever evolving campuses. The first full class of seniors graduated in 2023.
Greenwich Country Day School's Girls Varsity Ice Hockey team is a varsity high school program that competes in the NEPSAC (New England Prep School Athletic Conference) and the FAA. We are proud to offer an option for elite hockey players in Fairfield county and New York to play in the highest high school hockey league while being able to stay at home and earn a top end educational advantage.
Vision and Values
What we believe, and what we believe about hockey:
- Culture and standards are the foundation and driver of any good organization. In order to maximize talent, a culture must be one that inspires its athletes to be ALL IN ALL THE TIME
- Making small, marginal gains everyday matters. Every time we get on the ice, the goal will be to get 1% better.
- We coach the person first, the athlete second – a coach’s job must be to equip athletes for life, not just for sport.
- To be successful in this sport, we must do the basic things really well. Therefore, we will focus on the fundamentals and the details.
- It is not about winning or losing but how we win or lose.
- Being a teacher and a coach is a privilege.
Our Approach to Coaching:
- Open communication between players and coaches, there needs to be trust and respect both ways
- Focus on technical aspects of the game and provide athletes with tools to solve problems in any game situation.
- Coaching occurs in practice, in between shifts or in between periods. When they are on the ice, we have no control.
Personal Standards:
- Give your absolute best in everything that you do – today’s efforts are tomorrow’s results.
- Do the little things – they always matter.
- Be a lifelong learner – growth mindset.
- Relentless pursuit of excellence - push past your comfort zone.
- Share the credit – nothing great was ever accomplished alone.
